TruchiChat 1.3.21 (612) · on the App Store today

Video calls look much sharper and smoother, voices sound better, calls hold up better when the connection is poor, and you can send several files at once.

Video Calls

• Up to four times the detail and twice the smoothness of before, when both phones connect directly.
• Through the relay server, for example with “Hide My IP in Calls,” the picture improves too: more than twice the detail and twice the smoothness.
• If the connection gets poor, the picture lowers its quality on its own so the call keeps going.

Calls

• Voices sound a little better and are easier to understand when the connection loses data.
• If the direct connection between the two phones loses a lot, the call switches to the relay server on its own within a few seconds, without hanging up or reconnecting.
• You get the full benefit when your contact also has the latest version of TruchiChat.

Files and Photos

• In + → File you can select several files at once, up to 20, and each one goes out in its own bubble. If any can’t be sent, the app lets you know.
• In the photo and video viewer, the bar you hide with a tap stays hidden as you move from one photo or video to the next and when you rotate your iPhone.

PDFs in a chat open in their own viewer, a down arrow jumps to the latest message, and messages from the same second stay in order.

PDF

• Open a PDF and swipe sideways through every PDF in the chat. The top shows “Page x of y,” and you can share it.
• Rotate your iPhone to see it sideways.
• One tap hides the top bar and the status bar; another tap brings them back. With the bars or without them, you can scroll, pinch to zoom, and move between PDFs.

Chat

• On the right, the down arrow takes you to the latest message. If there are new messages, a small circle in the app’s color shows how many.
• Messages sent in the same second stay in the order they went out when you open the chat again.

Reliability

• The notice that history was lost only appears if the chat key is really missing, not when you wake a locked iPhone.
• Messages that arrive while your iPhone is locked open the first time and are always checked against your contact’s key.
• The “It has been requested again” notice no longer stays on once the message has arrived.

Share from other apps to several chats at once, calls stay on your headphones or in the car, and tapping a quote takes you to the quoted message.

Sharing

• When you share from another app, chats are listed by last message, with their photo, name, and time; archived chats go last. You can search by name.
• Tap one or more chats and send. With one, that chat opens; with several, the app lets you know, for example “Sent to 3 chats.”

Calls

• With Bluetooth or wired headphones, or in the car (hands-free or CarPlay), voice and video calls start and stay on them.
• With nothing connected, video calls use the speaker and voice calls the earpiece. If you take your headphones off, even just out of your ears, a video call moves to the speaker and a voice call to the earpiece; put them back on and the sound returns to them.
• The speaker button shows where the sound is really playing.

Chat

• Tap the quote in a reply and the chat scrolls up to that message and highlights it, even if it’s from days ago. This works for replies you already had, too.
• It no longer says “That message is no longer in this chat” by mistake when the message is still there. It only says so if the message was deleted.

Photos, videos, and PDFs now rotate with your iPhone, and the copy of a message that couldn’t be opened arrives even if the app was closed.

Messages

• If a message you sent couldn’t be opened on the other phone and their phone asks you to send it again, your iPhone sends the copy even if the app was closed, offline, or your iPhone was locked. It goes out as soon as there’s a connection.
• The copy is no longer mixed up with the “read” mark of the message that couldn’t be opened: the message shows the copy’s checkmarks.

Photos and Videos

• Photos, videos, and PDFs turn sideways when you rotate your iPhone. Chats stay upright, and nothing rotates if Portrait Orientation Lock is on in Control Center.

TruchiChat is now also in English, and when you come back from a contact’s info screen, the chat stays where you left it.

Language

• Choose “Español” or “English” at the very top when you create your account, and change it anytime in Settings › Language. The app switches right away, without closing.
• Accounts you already had stay in Spanish until you change it.
• About, Privacy, Support, and What’s New are in English too, and the sample message for voice disguises plays in English.
• Messages aren’t translated.

Chat

• When you come back from a contact’s info screen, the keyboard stays down and the chat stays on the same line. If something arrived in the meantime, you see the latest message.

Photos and Confirmations

• When you tap a contact’s photo or your own, a menu opens right next to it to choose a photo or an icon, or remove it.
• Confirmations, like blocking or deleting, appear right next to the button you tap.

Permissions and Lock

• The permissions screen at the start shows only the ones the app will ask for.
• On an iPhone without Face ID or Touch ID, the app lock says “Lock with iPhone Passcode.”

Each chat can now have its own voice message disguise, and you can try them with your own voice before you choose.

Voice Message Disguise

• In a chat, tap the name at the top, then under “Sounds and Notifications” open “Voice Message Disguise.” There are eleven to choose from: Default, Robot, Choir, Muffled Deep, Whisper, Neutral Tone, Metallic, High-Pitched, Giant, Radio, and Elf.
• Tap the play button on a disguise to hear how it sounds on a sample message, and tap the row to choose it.
• With “My Voice,” you record up to 10 seconds and hear it with each disguise. That recording is never sent or saved: it’s deleted when you leave the screen.
• When you record a voice message, you still choose “Send Normal” or “Send Disguised.” Disguised uses that chat’s disguise. It all happens on your iPhone, and your contact can’t see which disguise you chose.

Recording

• The button to stop recording a voice message is now a red square.

The keyboard no longer covers messages, and when you come back to a chat, it’s right where you left it, with the keyboard as it was.

Keyboard

• When you open the keyboard, quote a message, or type several lines, the latest messages move up and sit just above it. None of them get hidden underneath anymore. When you close it, they move back down.

Back to the Chat

• If you leave TruchiChat with a chat open and come back, you’re still on the same line. If something new arrived in the meantime, the chat scrolls down to the latest message.
• The keyboard comes back the way you left it: if you were typing, it stays open.
• Tapping a message notification opens the chat at the latest message.
• When you go back to a chat from the list, you’re where you left off if nothing new has arrived.
• The same goes with App Lock on, after Face ID.

Messages that arrive while your iPhone is locked are no longer lost, quotes show the name of whoever wrote the message, and calls connect better on a poor network.

Messages

• A message that arrived while your iPhone was locked could show up in the notification and then be missing from the chat. Now it only appears in the chat once it’s saved on your iPhone, and anything still pending is saved when you unlock.
• TruchiChat only marks a message as received once it’s saved, so the only copy is never lost.

Quotes

• A reply’s quote always shows who wrote the quoted message. Before, if that message was no longer on your iPhone, it could show “You:” instead of the other person’s name.

Calls

• When you answer, if the call doesn’t connect, TruchiChat tries again on its own. If there’s still no connection after 12 seconds, it hangs up and says “Couldn’t connect” instead of going silent.
• The caller sees “Calling…” until the other person’s phone rings, and then “Ringing…”. If it doesn’t ring, TruchiChat tries again.
• If the connection drops or changes during a call, it recovers faster, even with App Lock on.
• The same call no longer rings twice.

Pin the chats you use most to the top, move the ones you don’t want to see to Archived, and reply to a voice message with another in one tap. Plus, each chat now has its own key.

Pinned Chats

• Swipe a chat to the right and tap Pin: it stays at the top of the list. Up to 3; the last one you pin goes first, and new messages don’t move them.

Archived

• Swipe a chat to the left to Archive it, or tap More… to delete the messages for you or for everyone, or delete the chat. Everything asks first.
• Archived chats are in the Archived row at the top of the list, with a count of the ones that have something unread.
• With “Keep Chats Archived” (Settings > Chats, on by default), a new message doesn’t move the chat out of Archived, doesn’t notify you, and doesn’t count toward the app icon badge. Calls still ring.

Reply

• When you listen to a voice message you’ve received, a button appears next to it to reply with another voice message: one tap and you start recording, with the quote already attached. It stays on the last one you listened to until you leave the chat.
• Voice messages, photos, videos, files, contacts, and locations you send as a reply to a message include the quote, just like text messages. If you send several photos at once, the quote goes on the first one.
• Leaving the chat stops the voice message that was playing, and a recording in progress is discarded.

Clearing and Deleting

• Delete Chat makes it clear that the chat is deleted on both iPhones and that, to talk again, you’ll need to scan the QR code again. If you still have unsent messages in that chat, it tells you how many will be lost.
• If the other person clears or deletes the chat while your iPhone is off, it takes effect when your iPhone is back, even days later. If something written before the chat was cleared arrives afterward, it no longer appears.
• Clearing or deleting a chat also removes its notifications from the screen.

What You Delete

• Each chat has its own key. When you clear it, the key is replaced with a new one, what’s left of the chat is saved again with the new key, and the old one is deleted. When you delete the chat or your account, its key is deleted.
• Anything saved with a deleted key that might still be on your iPhone can no longer be opened.
• When you open the app, copies of photos, videos, and files from messages that no longer exist are deleted.

An invitation’s QR code is now a truchichat.com link: scan it with your iPhone’s camera and you’re in the chat without tapping anything else.

Invitations

• An invitation’s QR code contains a truchichat.com link. With TruchiChat installed, the iPhone camera opens the app and accepts the invitation on its own. Without the app, you get the TruchiChat page to install it. The code comes after the #, so the website never sees it.
• The same goes when you tap an invitation link in another app or share it to TruchiChat: it’s accepted without having to press Return.

During a voice or video call, videos in the chat start muted, with the notice “Muted during the call,” and you can turn the sound on. Voice notes play without interrupting the call.

While the call lasts, you can’t record voice notes or videos with the chat camera, and the app lets you know. You can still take photos.

If you use the app in English, links to the website (terms, privacy, support…) now open the English page. In Spanish, nothing changes.

Better protection against profile photos and video thumbnails with abnormal sizes: if you get a huge one, the app shrinks it or discards it without freezing. Normal photos look just as they did before.
