Features
What TruchiChat does today on iPhone and on Android. Almost everything is the same on both; where it differs, we say so
Chatting
- Sent, delivered and read indicators, and “typing…” while the other person types.
- Press and hold a message to react, reply, forward it or see when it was sent, received and read.
- Edit your messages or delete them for both of you. Select several to share or delete them all at once.
- Disappearing messages, from 30 seconds to a week: they delete themselves on both phones.
- Archive a chat, or clear it just for you or for both of you.
- A message sound and a ringtone for each contact.
Voice and Video Calls
- Calls and video calls between two people, encrypted from one phone to the other.
- Switch from voice to video without hanging up. On video, flip the camera, turn it off or leave the app: the call continues in a small window.
- Choose where you hear it: the phone, the speaker or headphones.
- With “Hide My IP in Calls,” in Settings, the call goes through our server and the other person doesn’t see your address. If it can’t be hidden, the call doesn’t go through and the app tells you.
- Calls ring even with the app closed. On iPhone, on the system call screen; on Android, full screen with the phone locked, if you allow it.
Photos, Videos and Voice Notes
- Photos from your library, up to 20 at a time, or taken with the camera, with a caption.
- Videos up to 10 minutes long: trim them or mute them. They arrive in 720p, up to 100 MB.
- View once: with the eye icon, the photo or video opens only once, with no screenshots and no saving.
- Voice notes: record one, listen to it and send it as is or with a disguised voice, changed on your phone.
- Before sending a photo or video, you can crop it, rotate it and draw on it.
Files, Contacts and Location
- PDFs and other files up to 50 MB. PDFs open right inside TruchiChat.
- A contact from your address book: the app only gets the one you choose, it doesn’t read your contacts.
- A place: your location or one you pick on the map. It’s sent once, not in real time.
- From other apps, share photos, videos, files, links or text to a chat.
Your Contact
- Give them a nickname and a photo that only you see.
- Check their identity with the safety number and their QR code, and mark them as verified. Here’s how.
- Mute their notifications or see the files you’ve sent each other.
- Block them (the chat is deleted on both phones) or report them, without sending what’s in the chat.
Privacy on Your Phone
- Your history is stored encrypted on your phone and isn’t copied to the cloud or to another phone.
- Each chat has its own key: it changes when you clear the chat and is deleted when you delete the chat or your account. Whatever was stored with the old key can no longer be opened.
- App lock: with Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode on iPhone; with your fingerprint or face on Android. It locks when you leave, and the recent apps view doesn’t show your chats.
- Notifications never include the text: they say who’s writing and “New message,” with that name sealed inside the notification so that neither Apple nor Google can see it.
- The camera, microphone and location are only used when you ask.

What It Doesn’t Have, on Purpose
No groups: chats are between two people, for privacy. No cloud backup, no computer version and only one phone per account. There’s no search inside chats either. We explain it in the FAQ.
